Prague's Christmas tree repeatedly in the TOP 20 in the world

In 2020, DECOLED was awarded the first contract for the decoration of the Christmas tree in Old Town Square. It was a big challenge because DECOLED's CEO, Eva Poláčková, came up with a new concept and decided not to build on the installations of previous years. Since then, this Christmas tree has repeatedly won global competitions for the most beautiful Christmas trees in the world.

"I wanted to go for a concept of minimalism, subtlety and purity. My intention was not for the tree to be as colourful as a bowl of sweets. I rejected the icy waterfalls and snowflakes that were widely used at the time. Our tree was to be poetic in its simplicity and expressive in the whole, not in the individual. Lights, stars and classic glass flasks in red and gold. Nothing more."

It took courage to push this unusual solution and go against the trend of colourful, flashing trees with lots of ornaments and moving lights. In addition, the whole of Prague, the Czech Republic, Europe and the world were in the midst of a covid epidemic at the time. Traditional Christmas markets were cancelled for obvious reasons and the tree was left standing all alone in the legendary square.

"We were worried, but in the end it turned out that everything bad is good for something. By not setting the tree in a mumble of stalls, attractions and other decorations and ornaments, it gave it a chance to stand out. It became a landmark. At a time when everyone was experiencing fear and worry about the never-ending epidemic, this tree was a kind of return to the traditional Czech Christmas and the peace we needed."

The unconventional concept of a Christmas tree in the centre of the metropolis also gained the attention of the global editors of FORBES magazine, who selected the Prague tree as one of the TOP 20 most beautiful Christmas trees in the world. The concept of minimalism, sobriety and the poetic beauty of simplicity, which DECOLED has managed to implement, has gained its place and is now becoming a new tradition of the Old Town Square in Prague.

DECOLED has been behind the festive decoration of the city centre ever since.
